Our Impact

During the period January 2018 to date,, EPHWOR programmes contributed to activities addressing patients and health workers’ rights through various objectives. We have achieved success using a number of strategies including;

Litigation against health workers’ negligence

From January 2018 to date, EPHWOR contributed to improved access to legal assistance and remedies for patients and health workers.

  • EPHWOR sued Sheema district local government and Sheema municipal Council for violation of patients’ rights in Kiconco Faridah Vs Sheema district and Sheema municipal council.
  • EPHWOR’s Litigation has made Sheema Municipality to request for Mediation accepting to give Kiconco some money for treatment. This is good impact and other Health Workers throughout the Country have started taking extra care on Patients.
  • EPHWOR wrote a notice of intention to sue the Atomic energy Council over failure on their mandate to regulate radiations by health facilities that have adverse health effects on patients and health workers. A feedback was received from Atomic energy council with measures that are being taken to ensure that the licencing and control of health facilities with ionizing radiations are regulated.
  • EPHWOR wrote a notice of intension to sue Kiruhura District local government over dilapidated Kashonji health centre III with major cracks that put a risk to both in and out patients in danger of their lives hence denying them a right to safe environment.

Impact

-Sofar EPHWOR’s Litigation has made Sheema Municipality to request for Mediation to give Kiconco some money for treatment. This is good impact and other Health Workers throughout the Country have started taking extra care on Patients.

-So far more than 30 individual members have contributed cash and in kind to different patients for them to access treatment and Justice. -A good number of people have pledged support our Project with GlobalGiving when they saw Media reporting about Kiconco and watched video of Ms Kiconco

Other strategies include; Advocacy for Better Policies on Patients’ Rights, Strategic partnerships and networking, Resource Mobilization and fundraising, Patients and health workers’ rights awareness programmes to name a few.
